Although we have developed our reading skills alongside our writing, we have also practised our comprehension skills 2 to 3 times a week, using a variety of stimuli. Some examples include: images, videos, poems, extracts from texts and index pages. We have then answered questions, encouraging us to develop skills around retrieving information, inferring characters and settings and consider authors’ choices.
Texts we have explored include: Secrets of a Sun King, George's Secret key to the Universe and Journey to the River Sea. Whilst these texts have enabled us to write postcards, diary inputs, stories and setting descriptions, we have also done our own research, which has enabled us to create posters, non-chronological reports and detailed pieces of extended writing.
