St Margaret’s vision for PE

Our Mission in PE: To promote excellent health, physical and lifestyle choices for all children, which is sustainable throughout their lives. Incorporating physical education throughout other curriculum areas, embeds our mission throughout school.

As a REAL Legacy school, “We give every child the physical literacy, emotional and thinking skills to achieve in PE, sport and life.”

Healthy and Active Lifestyles

We educate children to develop a greater understanding of the benefits of healthy living. We aim to promote long term, sustained active choices, with regards to exercise, personal and mental wellbeing and diet. We achieve this through curricular and extra-curricular activities. We will build knowledge, improve skills and deepen social wellbeing within a partnership between home, school and the community. We provide opportunities to promote healthy and active lifestyles, not only with our pupils, but for the families of our pupils.

Physical Education

We offer a wide range of activities which encourage children to enjoy exercise, and actively make healthy lifestyle choices, understanding the benefits throughout their lives. Children will be taught the fundamental skills of agility, balance and coordination through our commitment of being a ‘REAL LEGACY’ school. During PE lessons, children understand the values of learning through a social, emotional, personal and cognitive approach.

All children will take part in at least two one hour lessons per week within the curriculum, as well as being encouraged to partake in activities beyond the school. We provide opportunities for all through afterschool clubs, lunchtime activities and links to local clubs. These allow children to apply their skills learnt in school and interact socially for the fun element of exercise. All this in turn, will promote high self-esteem and confidence when faced with challenges in all areas of life at home, school and the community.

Since teaching PE through REAL PE, there has been a shift from teacher lead, to child lead learning. Children are able to make a positive contribution to their own learning, as well as the learning of others. As children set their own challenges, PE lessons are truly a personalised learning experiences for all.

    Skip, scoot and hoop-a-thon

News Report by Ella and Lily, year 6. On Wednesday 22nd October 2014 the children took part in a skip scoot and hoop-a-thon, to raise money for several children’s charities. With help from the Rotary club, the Sports council planned and ran the event which included over 400 children. Despite the weather, each and every child received a medal on completion of the challenge. Every child was involved in the activities .Even the ones that aren’t as keen to join in! It was great to see that everyone enjoyed it and left with a smile on their face. “Everything went well!!!” Ella (the sports council captain) “I enjoyed organizing and participating in the event even if the weather wasn’t on our side” Lily (secretary of the sports council) Go Team go!!!!!!!!!!

    Brownlee Triathlon

We had a fantastic day at the John Charles Centre competing in a Triathlon event. We had to swim, cycle, and run, all in wet clothes. We were lucky to meet the Brownlee brothers, they even signed our medals for us.
