At St Margaret's, our Science curriculum is all about developing the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world in which we live and furthering their curiosity through investigation and questioning.
We follow The National Curriculum programmes of study for each year group, which draws upon the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. From plants, animals, habitats and materials in Key Stage One, to magnetism, electricity, space and evolution in Key Stage Two, we cover a wide breadth of study for all our year groups.
Science is delivered, wherever possible, as practical, hands-on lessons that ensure the children are fully immersed in their learning and discovery. Working scientifically forms the basis to all our science lessons and the children are taught to use the following practical scientific methods, processes and skills:
- questioning
- observing
- classifying
- pattern seeking
- testing
- researching
- presenting data
British Science Week 2024
This year we were lucky enough to have Sublime Science workshops for every class in school, funded by our brilliant PTA. These were so exciting and really brought the awe and wonder of Science to life for our children. We also had visits from some of our amazing parents who work in the STEM field. The parents kindly gave up their time to come in and inspire our children with a range of different STEM careers, our children were so enthused. We have lots of budding Scientists now! Finally, we ended the week with announcing the winners of our Science poster competition in the PROUD assembly. A huge congratulations to our winners and a big thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to enter. All the posters were so brilliant, it was a difficult choice!
