Starting School In Reception
 
By law children must start school from the beginning of the school term after their fifth birthday. In Leeds children normally start school at the beginning of the academic year in which they have their fifth birthday. 
 
How to apply
Reception children must apply online by going on to the Leeds City Council website https://www.leeds.gov.uk/schools-and-education/school-admissions/apply-for-a-primary-school

Prospective Parents of children starting Reception September 2026

We will be holding 'Open Day' sessions in September and again in November during the school day which will have a limit on numbers and we will also hold an 'Open Evening' for everyone to attend after school. Please do check the website for updates in September so that you can book onto the tours.
Inside and outside of your reception classroom

Help your child get 'Reception Ready' and use these pictures to familiarise your them with their new classroom and outdoor play area. Discuss the different areas and activities your child could do in the areas, discuss which area they think they might enjoy or are excited to explore, discuss routines such as hanging coats and bag on pegs, flushing the toilet and washing their hands and even sitting on the carpet.
