At St Margaret's, we teach French across Key Stage Two (Years 3-6). Each class is allocated at least 30 minutes for the main language lesson and is delivered through an exciting new scheme of learning, Language Angels. Class teachers also ensure that French is used where appropriate throughout the school day too, providing further opportunities for the children's language development and consolidation.
The National Curriculum statutory requirement from September 2014 asks Key Stage Two pupils and teachers to focus on making substantial progress in at least one modern or ancient foreign language. Our aim is to develop the confidence and competence of each child in French. Our goal is for them to be passionate, curious and confident about their own foreign language learning abilities when they leave us. We will help them develop and demonstrate substantial progress in the 5 key language skills necessary for learning French; Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing and Grammar.
Languages are not a compulsory subject for EYFS and Key Stage One, however, we are very fortunate at St Margaret's to be able to offer extra curricular Spanish clubs for our EYFS and KS1 children, as we really appreciate the importance of learning a language.
Please see below for full details on these clubs.
