This classic story tells of the duck, the cat and the squirrel who make the most delicious pumpkin soup. Each animal has an important job to do to make the soup so delicious. When the duck wants a different job they squabble and have to learn an important lesson is sharing and caring for one another. This story provides the perfect autumnal setting and the text is bursting with new words for us to talk about and add to our own vocabulary. We make our own pumpkin soup just like the animals, we re enact the story in our autumnal small world tray and we shape and manipulate spicy scented play dough.
Autumn 1 Pumpkin Soup by Helen CooperEach week two Reception librarians from each class visit Horsforth library to choose books for our book corners. The librarians take responsibility for the book corner, displaying the books and giving a recommendation for whole class story time. Our librarians love the responsibility of choosing the books and take great pride in organising and looking after our 'book nook' in the classroom.
