Year 1
Children in Year 1 have access to high quality daily phonics teaching for 30 minutes every day. Phonics skills are also embedded in writing and reading tasks across all areas of provision which is used within the classroom to provide challenge. Year 1 children  practise  reading‘Alien’ or pseudo words in readiness for the Phonic Screening Check and to give them the confidence to read any word. Children should aim to read and write all the common exception words for Years 1 as listed in the National Curriculum 2014.

The Higher Levels

The higher levels of phonics teaches children the concept that there are more than one spelling for the sounds they hear in words.

Supersonic Phonic Friends Rhymes and Jingles

In our Supersonic Phonic Friends lessons the whole class recall the rhymes and jingles that help us to learn.
