The development of children’s artistic and cultural awareness supports their imagination and creativity. It is important that children have regular opportunities to engage with the arts, enabling them to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials. The quality and variety of what children see, hear and participate in is crucial for developing their understanding, self-expression, vocabulary and ability to communicate through the arts. The frequency, repetition and depth of their experiences are fundamental to their progress in interpreting and appreciating what they hear, respond to and observe.
Learning About Famous Artists

Reception learn about artists such as Matisse, Klimt and Degas. Here you see the children appraising the work of their peers after being inspired by Matisse and his work of 'The Snail'. Our children learnt how to tear paper and create their own art. Our children learnt that the way art can be interpreted is personal to the individual. We also learnt about the artist Gustav Klimt. We were inspired to create our own 'Tree of Life' after learning about discussing Klimt's art work.

Sculpture- Clay

Through the story of 'Degas and the Little Dancer' by Laurence Anholt, Reception were inspired to create their own sculptures from clay. Handling and manipulating clay gives our children the experience of creating with different media, using their hands as tools to shape, sculpt and create.
